Shake it off, NY Knicks!
US President Trump jinxes Game Three
At 3:30 AM Israel time on Tuesday morning, my daughter and I woke up to watch Game 3 of the NBA Finals. As we at leftover Szechuan noodles, I pointed out New York celebrities in the crowd, and explained the game, sharing a passion for an American sport for which I thought I had long lost my passion.
(As a relatively tall Jewish woman, I played basketball in high school, and had an almost perfect Free-Throw scoring percentage.)
Perfect mother-daughter bonding time, except for the hour. Even when Tuesday is a school day, unless of course Iran decides to cancel our normally scheduled program.
Brunson is going to need a serious Chiropractic treatment after Game Three.
They lost game three and here is my theory: US President Donald Trump attended, falling asleep in his bulletproof VIP box soon after he was booed during the American national anthem. Honestly, if he needed to take a nap, he could have just as easily done so in the Oval Office, while he was surrounded by 20 other people on camera.
Yes, here’s where I toss aside all rational and scientific knowledge and proclaim that Trump jinxed the NY Knicks, at a game where they had the Home Court Advantage.
As Stephen Smith said in a pre-game interview, “If it [Trump’s attendance] causes the NY Knicks to lose tonight, I am blaming him, I’m blaming the President of the United States…And damnit I hope the GOP loses votes if we lose tonight.”
He had better not show up to Game Four. New Yorkers take this year’s finals very seriously, as it’s been 53 years since the Knicks took home the Championship.
Frankly, I am not sure why Trump wanted to attend the game or even return to The City, when New York protesters are chanting in front of Trump Tower, “New York hates you.”
I love New York, and I love New Yorkers. Even Elmo - yes, the three year old puppet from Sesame Street - almost got banned from Twitter for not outwardly supporting the Knicks.
Israelis are a lot like New Yorkers, brutally honest and over-protective of their own.
As an aside, I have a question from a friend: Trump is not afraid to sit at a basketball game with over 20,000 strangers in Madison Square Garden, but he needs a taxpayer-funded $1 billion ballroom with a bunker?
